Cranberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie

My girls really aren’t picky eaters. Breakfast, however, is another matter. Everyone in this house has their own opinion about what makes a good breakfast and apparently we’re all standing on different street corners every morning.
I’m on the corner of Breakfast is Good any time after 9:30 and Let’s Keep it Light. Granola is nice.
Eila is right in the middle of the German Pancakes road. German Pancakes always and forever.
Esme intersects Eggs are Nice – but only with Parmesan, Yogurt is Good- but only with real maple syrup, Pancakes/Waffles are best – but only before 7:30 AM.
Adelaide jumps onto the Breakfast map at 6:45 AM when her eyes open and she pretty much needs breakfast now. Now. NOW. And it better be a peanut butter sandwich – one slice of bread, lightly toasted, with honey.
Did I mention, I’m not really a morning person?
This would be a lovely blog post if I could tell you that this incredible Cranberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie had united the breakfast front here. But no, not really. It is making my mornings a little easier though.
First, I need to tell you that this smoothie is good – tastes good and is healthy good. It is my go-to breakfast many mornings lately. Eila won’t eat it, Esme will eat it, Ada will sometimes eat it but only if it comes with a peanut butter sandwich. But, whatever. It’s good and I eat it and it makes my day run smoother to start off with a good, healthy, filling breakfast.
It has oatmeal, and an apple, whole cranberries, and even some plain Greek yogurt for all its touted health benefits. It’s lightly sweetened with a banana and a few dates, spiced with a hint of cinnamon. It’s good. I ate it for breakfast yesterday, today, and I’m counting on it again tomorrow.

Cranberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie

Ingredients

1 1/3 cup water
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1 large ripe banana
4 tablespoons rolled oats
1 apple, cored and quartered (doesn’t need to be peeled)
1/2 cup whole, frozen cranberries
4 to 6 whole pitted dates, or as desired for sweetness
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

Place all ingredients into a high powered blender (I use a Blendtec) in the order listed here. Pulse for approximately 30 to 40 seconds or until completely smooth. Makes 2 large servings or 4 smaller servings.
