But recently I’ve become a little more informed and my fiancée has started making an amazing new breakfast.
Of course I have made other changes, as well. My eating habits in general have improved, and I’ve become a lot more active.
Why This Breakfast Is Awesome
Way fewer cravings
I’m not sure if it’s the raw organic honey or the banana, but somehow eating this breakfast really helps me manage my sugar cravings. I used to be craving sugar by lunch, but these days my cravings are almost gone. Plus, I stopped drinking juice, which was definitely making things worse.
Fuller for Longer
I’ve seen articles and opinions go either way on whether oats are beneficial for weight loss. But for me, they’ve definitely worked. Some days I almost forget to eat lunch because I don’t get hungry until well into the afternoon.
Metabolism boost?
I’m not really sure how you know if your metabolism is burning faster, but I strongly suspect that it is. Eating a full breakfast gives your stomach a reason to start working in the morning and I really believe it’s one of the reasons losing weight has gotten easier.
Notes On The Recipe
Honestly I’m not 100% satisfied with all the ingredients that I use at the moment. Because I’m living on a budget, I still use unsweetened cocoa powder instead of cacao powder. And you could probably use chia seeds instead of flaxseed, but flax seeds are still pretty good.
A final note would be that this recipe is for myself, and as you can see above, I am a rather hefty guy. My petite fiancée typically eats less, say a ¼ cup of oats instead of a 1/3 and adjusts some of the other ingredients accordingly. You can also always make adjustments to suit your unique tastes.
The Recipe
1/3 cup rolled oats
1/2 tbsp ground flaxseed
3/4 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional)
1/2 banana
1 tbsp raw organic honey
1 heaping spoonful of plain Greek yogurt
1/3 cup unsweetened almond milk
Simply mix everything up in a bowl or small container with a spoon, cover them, and place them in the fridge overnight.
The next morning take them out and enjoy! You can warm them up on the stove if you like, or you can add a little extra almond milk (I do) and mix it in to get a different consistency.
I absolutely love them, and I hope you do too!
